Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT worth $300K accidentally sold for $3K

A Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT worth $300k was accidentally sold for $3k by an unlucky guy this weekend.

Max (or maxnaut), who describes himself as a “solo-traveler, bored ape, marketing agency owner, and NFT investor.” put the NFT up for sale on Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Max planned to price the NFT at 75 ether (approximately $300,000) but had accidentally written 0.75 ether (about $3,000) instead.

Before he could fix the error, the NFT had been snatched up perhaps by a bot intended to identify and acquire discounted listings to take advantage of these specific conditions on behalf of its owners.

The buyer paid an additional $34,000 to hasten the deal and ensure that no one else bought it before them. The Bored Ape was quickly listed for $248,000.

“How’d it happen? A lapse of concentration I guess,” Max told CNET, “I list a lot of items every day and just wasn’t paying attention properly.

I instantly saw the error as my finger clicked the mouse but a bot sent a transaction with over 8 eth [$34,000] of gas fees so it instantly sniped before I could click cancel, and just like that, $250k was gone.”

Despite the setback, Max appeared to be doing well, as he said in a tweet, “Sometimes you fuck up, make a bad buy, out of gas fail, send Eth to the wrong wallet, or fat-finger a listing.

It’s going to happen. But, letting it occupy your mind for even one second after you can no longer affect the outcome is purely hurting yourself twice.”

The Bored Ape Yacht Club, one of the world’s most prestigious NFT collections, is a collection of 10,000 NFTs, each showing an ape with a unique personality and appearance.

Its star-studded members include Jimmy Fallon, Steph Curry, and Post Malone. The current entry price for a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT is 52 ether ($210,000).
